BILLY FORBES

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in Ireland. When we first met Billy Forbes, a 49-year-old social worker from Dundalk, he was worried about his heart health. He had a mild heart attack and he worried that he might suffer another. But since his first attack he’s gradually become unfit and has seen his weight creep up. Dr Mark Hamilton sent him for a state-of-the-art heart scan to check out his heart condition. He also advised him about the best strategy for exercise and nutrition to help avoid future heart problems. Find out how Billy has progressed in the year since he first met Dr Mark and whether has he taken his heart health as seriously as he should.

ÁINE O’BRIEN-FARRELL

49-year-old Áine O’Brien Farrell from Waterford is a graphic designer living a busy life looking after her family and training guide dogs for the blind in any spare time. She has Type 2 diabetes and she was keen to avoid having to take insulin. Dr Mark Hamilton and a team of experts helped her improve her diabetes management. They also wanted her to take a fresh approach to her lifestyle. But has she managed to follow their advice over the last year?

MARGARET CONLAN

When we first met 57-year-old Margaret Conlan from Rathangan, she was running a busy household and juggling two jobs – all this despite having suffered from chronic pain in her feet for the last 7 years which caused her a considerable amount of discomfort and stress. She was unable to take any exercise and coping by comfort eating. Dr Mark Hamilton recommended she visit to a pedorthist (a foot specialist) and after years of looking for a cure to her problems this one appointment proved to be life changing. We find out how she is she doing one year on.

IAN KELLY

We revisit 29-year-old Ian Kelly from Tallaght, Dublin. A construction worker and dad of two, Ian started smoking when he was only 12 years old and had developed a 20 a day habit. He’d been steadily piling on the weight and with a busy 6 day a week job and a very young family Ian found it hard to make time to look after himself. An appearance on Tubridy Tonight shocked him into realizing that he had to change! Dr Mark Hamilton wanted to help but Ian was frustrated by an initial lack of progress. However, Dr Mark challenged him to literally take a “leap of faith” and trust that he would eventually reap the benefits of a better lifestyle. Dr Mark returns to find out if Ian has managed to turn his life around.

GERALDINE GOODISON

Dr Mark Hamilton first met 26-year-old Geraldine Goodison, a legal secretary from Waterford, just before her wedding. She wanted to quit smoking before the big day. But her nicotine addiction was proving extremely hard to beat, despite her valiant attempts to give up. Dr Mark returns to find out how she’s faring one year on and whether she’s eventually managed to give up smoking.

MARIA DUFFY

When Dr Mark first met Maria Duffy she loved her junk food, she smoked and was very unfit. Dr Mark Hamilton and a team of experts encouraged Maria to change her lifestyle. She received dietary advice from top nutritionist Margot Brennan, styling advice from Anne Marie Boland and tried hip-hop dance and ladies football. A year after he first visited Dr Mark returns to finds that Maria has some very exciting news.
