The popular travel series is back on Monday 8th November with Joe Lindsay and Emma-Louise Johnston on a mission to uncover the best holiday destinations you can fly to directly out of Ireland.

In this series they uncover holiday gems in Croatia, Hungary, Canada, Cyprus and Abu Dhabi. They’ll also be reporting on a Med’ break from one of the world’s largest cruise ships.

• In Croatia they’re based on the Makarska Riviera and will find out if holidaying outside the euro zone really does save you money.
• In Hungary they visit the capital city Budapest, which has daily flights from Dublin and has become a hip city break destination, rivalling cities like Prague and Berlin.
• In Canada they’re in Montreal to see the sights of a city which the Irish had a significant part in building and where over 160,000 Irish people still live today.
• With 10 flights a week from Ireland to Abu Dhabi the team find out whether it’s a good alternative to the more well-known resort of Dubai, an hour and a half away.
• The duo visit Cyprus to explore the benefits of agro-tourism and take a break away from the beaches.
• Finally, they join a cruise with over 4,000 other people as it sails the Mediterranean taking in Sardinia, Rome and Lisbon. They give us the low- down on taking a holiday afloat.
  

And, closer to home, each programme includes one of the best short breaks ‘on our doorstep’. In Co Armagh we check out the Apple Festival and tepee camping, we try a canoe trail on Strangford Lough, we’re in Co Tyrone on a ‘learn-to’ break for fly-fishing and watercolour painting, in Donegal we head to the spa at Lough Eske Castle. Also, with a new daily flight from Belfast to Galway we try a city break in Ireland’s party city and in Co Down we reveal what’s on offer in the ‘new-look’ Newcastle.

Getaways is to be repeated on Wednesday evenings on BBC 2 NI. The series starts this week on Wednesday 11 May at 7pm, the first programme features Croatia.
